27 as soon as; barely...when; hardly...before; hardly...when; no sooner...than; scarce...before; scarcely...before; scarcely...when; so soon as; the instant; the minute; the moment

● 以上词组都是表示时间的连词词组，译为“一……就” “刚……就”，但用法不完全相同。

● as soon as是本组中最口语化的，引出时间状语从句，相当于the instant, the minute; the moment,可互换。as soon as也可用so soon as换用，只是后者不那么常用，且语气稍强。这两个词组引出的从句用一般现在时表将来，从句谓语不倒装。如：As soon as the bell rang they quieted down.（铃声一响，他们便安静下来。）I’ll ring you up as soon as I get an answer from him.（我一得到他的答复，便会打电话给你的。）Contact me as soon as possible.（尽快与我联系。）I’ll return the book as soon as I have read it.（书一看完，我就还你。）So soon as there is any talk of paying, his enthusiasm cools down.（一谈到付款的事，他就不热心了。）The minute the button is pressed the machine will start.（一按电钮，机器就会启动。）He was caught by the police the minute he arrived at the airport.（他刚一抵达机场，便被警方逮捕了。）The moment I saw this, it appealed to me.（我一看到这东西，就喜欢上了。）The instant there was interruption of our rights, we must act.（一旦我们的权力受到阻碍，就必须采取行动。）Although we didn’t meet for thirty years, I recognized him the minute [as soon as] I saw him. （虽然我们有三十年没有见面，但见面我就认出了他。）The moment [As soon as] the bell rang, the bus began to move. （铃一响，汽车就开动了。）The instant [As soon as] the scientist utter these words, there was a dead silence. （那位科学家一说出这些话，大家立刻沉默下来。）

● hardly…when; hardly…before; no sooner…than; scarcely…when; scarcely…before; scarce…before; barely…when等词组一般叙述过去的动作和行为，when, before, than后的谓语用一般过去时，而hardly, scarcely, scarce, no sooner和barely之后的谓语用过去完成时，以上五个词（组）放句首时，句中主谓要倒装，主句在从句前。如：He had hardly come in when the hens chucked and the cocks crowed, as if to welcome him.（他一进门，母鸡咯咯地叫，公鸡喔喔地啼，好像在欢迎他似的。）Scarcely had we reached the station when the train began to move.（我们刚到车站，火车就开了。）Scarce had he left the house before the weather began to change for the worse.（他刚一离开家门，天气就坏了。）She had barely arrived when she had to leave again.（她刚到就得又离开。）No sooner had he arrived than he went away again.（他刚一到便又离开了。）I had scarcely finished my work before he came in for a visit.（他进来拜访时，我恰好做完工作。）I had hardly closed the door before somebody started knocking on it.（我刚关上门，就有人敲起门来。）

● 以上词组也可和as soon as换用，只不过要注意其结构。它们之间一般可换用。
